In 2018, Republic Act 11055 was enacted. This is to provide a National ID program to Filipinos to replace different government IDs. The National ID can be used for different agencies like for pension funds and other government transactions.
The Philippine Statistics Authority will be heading the pre-registration and aims to go door to door and get 9 million Filipinos on board the Philippine National ID system. The agency targets to finish 108 million Filipinos by 2022.
According to PSA’s Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista, “9 million individuals composed of at least 5 million low-income household heads and the rest of adult members”.
There will be 2 stages: pre-registration and actual registration. The pre-registration will be from October 12 until December 30 while the actual registration is on November 12 to December 30.
