If you’ve ever planned your day around Metro Manila traffic, this might be something to watch out for. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said the Metro Manila Subway Project is expected to reduce travel time between Valenzuela City and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to just 29 minutes once the full line becomes operational.

The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for two additional stations, Kalayaan Avenue and Bonifacio Global City, on February 13, 2026. These new stations will form part of the segment linking Shaw Boulevard in Pasig to Lawton Avenue in Taguig.
According to the president, the subway aims to address how traffic has long shaped daily routines in the capital—from commute times to decisions about work and school. With the 33-kilometer subway line in place, the current one-and-a-half-hour trip between Valenzuela and BGC could be significantly shortened.
The BGC stations alone are projected to serve over 200,000 passengers daily in their first year of operation, and the subway is also expected to improve travel between Quezon City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay. Once operational, that trip could take around 35 minutes, compared to more than an hour by road.
The Metro Manila Subway Project will span 17 stations from Valenzuela to Bicutan in Taguig, with a connection to NAIA Terminal 3. It is also designed to integrate with existing and upcoming rail lines, including LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3, MRT-4, MRT-7, and the North-South Commuter Railway, creating more transfer options across the metro and nearby provinces.
The project is being implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and funded through a loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Officials have said the system will include disaster-resilient and modern infrastructure features.
Construction is ongoing, with the full subway line targeted for completion by 2029.
