Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has aired out his thoughts on the current face shield policy in the country in a tweet he posted on Wednesday, June 2.

We should adjust.”

[Translation: “We should halt the requirement of face shield to the general population and start only using them at the hospitals in order to minimize the expenses and ease the worries of the public. We are probably the only ones in the entire world who require face shields on the streets. We have to deliberate on this once again. We are more educated now. We should adjust.]

It was last December 2020 when the government imposed the policy of wearing face shields and face masks when going out of the house. A survey in February 2021 showed, however, that while nearly all Filipinos complied with the use of face masks, only 6 out of 10 wore face shields.

Until now, citizens continue to debate whether the wearing of face shields is even effective in combatting the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As of writing, the Philippines has a total of 1.24 million cases with 1.16 million recovered and 21,012 deaths.
