As we may all know, the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine has forced many businesses to close. That’s why store owners need to worry about the welfare of their employees, what to do with their stocks or ingredients, and a lot of other overhead expenses. This includes rent.

Thankfully, providers have extended payment on bills, while some malls have waived their rent for the month for their peace of mind. And this time, vendors from Manila have a reason to be happy. That’s right— Mayor Isko Moreno announced that he was suspending rental payment for market vendors and stall owners for the duration of the quarantine.

The Manila City Council passed this resolution— Resolution No. 85 series of 2020— just last March 20 in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Moreno then approved this in order to “alleviate the effects of the pandemic on the city’s market vendors and stallholders”.

According to the resolution, “(The City Council) grants a moratorium to all market stallholders within the City of Manila, whether public or privatized, from paying their rents for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).”

Aside from suspending rent, the national government emphasizes that citizens must strictly observe home quarantine. The suspension of mass public transportation will still be in place.
