The news first dropped during the DanceXchange 2019, a locally-organized event in celebration of International Dance Day.

In her acceptance speech, the Dance Princess said she is thrilled to be in the same rank as Boy Abunda and Piolo Pascual as ambassadors of NCCA. “Salamat po sa pagtitiwala sa akin sa pagpili bilang maging dance ambassador ng NCCA,” she said. “Gagamitin ko po ang boses ko para mas makilala pa ang sining, kultura at ibang-ibang klase pa ng sayaw ng mga Pilipino.”
She also said that she owes it to her stint as a judge for World of Dance and is thankful for the support and trust. “It felt good to know that people trust me and recognize my talent in dancing,” she said. “Dance has helped me a lot in terms of my career. Before people began appreciating me as an actress, they first noticed my talent in dancing.”
As the ambassador, Maja will focus on reminding the youth, “especially those who patronize international music and dance, to also try to learn to appreciate and love our own.”
