As Maine Mendoza celebrated her fifth anniversary of being in the showbiz industry, she received a sweet surprise from the man who stood by her side through it all: her former loveteam partner, Alden Richards!
Maine put on a Facebook Live chat last Saturday, July 4, to commemorate her big day, during which tons of video messages from her friends, colleagues, and fans were played for her. Among them was Alden, who had greeted her: “Maine, gulat ka no? Akala mo kung sino. ‘Di, joke lang. Happy, happy fifth anniversary sa showbiz (Maine, were you surprised? You thought it was someone else. Just kidding. Happy, happy fifth anniversary in showbiz).”
“Sobrang tine-treasure ko lahat ng mga pinagsamahan at pinagdaanan natin (I truly treasure all that we’ve been through together) throughout these years, through the ups and downs, good and bad, happy and sad,” he continued.
He expressed joy that no matter how the circumstances of their individual careers have changed, they remained good friends.
“I’m very happy for you. Five years in showbiz. Alam ko naging mahirap sa ‘yo ‘yun kasi una sa lahat hindi ka showbiz na tao eh and laking adjustment sayo ‘yun (I know it was difficult for you because, first of all, you aren’t a showbiz person and that was a big adjustment for you),” he added. “Pero happy ako kasi (But I’m happy because) for the love of your fans, for the love of the craft, for the love of the industry, nag-adjust ka (you adjusted).”
“So, thank you sa samahan, thank you sa friendship, higit sa lahat thank you sa mga natulungan mo, sa hard work mo (So, thank you for the company, thank you for the friendship, and, above all, thank you for all the people you’ve helped and all the hard work you’ve done.).”

Maine grew to social media fame for her viral Dubsmash videos and subsequently made her first appearance in noontime show Eat Bulaga! in 2015. She played a character called “Yaya Dub” and was paired with Alden for what would become the show’s most popular segment, “Kalyeserye.”
Since then, Maine has become a regular host for the show and has also starred in numerous films, including “Imagine You and Me” with Alden in 2016 and “Isa Pa with Feelings” with Carlo Aquino in 2019.
