If you’ve ever wondered whether Macaulay Culkin actually went through with that viral name-change joke from years ago, the answer is: yes, he absolutely did—legally.
During Nostalgic Night With Macaulay, a special screening tour celebrating the 35th anniversary of Home Alone, the former child star shared that he officially changed his name six years ago. And, in true Culkin fashion, it was all for the bit.

“My name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” he told the crowd.
The actor explained that the whole thing started as a lighthearted stunt when he guested on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Back in 2019, he let fans vote on a new middle name through a poll on his website, BunnyEars.com. The options were just as wild as you’d expect—ranging from “Shark Week” to “TheMcRibIsBack,” plus “Kieran” (a nod to his younger brother) and even “Publicity Stunt.”
Culkin later revealed on X that the winning choice was, unsurprisingly, “Macaulay Culkin.”
“Merry Christmas to me, from all of you!” he wrote at the time. “My new middle name has been chosen… It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name).”
Looking back, he joked that the whole thing was done “for that one joke. And a bit on Fallon.”
The Home Alone anniversary tour kicked off on November 25, 2025, and will run until December 12, 2025, giving fans a chance to relive the holiday classic—and apparently, a chance to catch up on Culkin’s legally official sense of humor.
