Who didn’t fall in love with the story of Christian and Satine in ‘Moulin Rouge’ when it came out in the cinemas back in 2001?
In case you were still too young to enjoy it back the or if you just started getting into musicals recently, ‘Moulin Rouge’ tells the story of a young writer named Christian (played by Ewan McGregor in the movie) who falls in love with a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge named Satine (played by Nicole Kidman in the movie). A rich duke (and a lot of drama and politics) get in the way of their relationship, though, and they have to hide and fight for their what-seems-to-be-doomed love.
‘Moulin Rouge’ was nominated for eight Oscars back then, including Best Picture, and they had some of the best and most unforgettable sets I have ever seen in a movie. Hearing that it has been turned into a musical is giving me so much life, and seeing this photo of the stage is making me so happy right now!
Isn’t it spectacular (spectacular)?
The set design aside, the music is sure to be amazing, as well, especially with such a great cast heading the company. Aaron Tveit (whom you probably know from Les Miserables and Grease) will be playing Christian, Karen Olive will be playing Satine, Danny Burstein will be playing Harold Zidlar, and Tam Mutu will be playing the Duke.
I am so jealous of everyone who will get to watch this new musical for its limited engagement until August 19. Please, please, please bring the musical here someday!!! I’m willing to wait.
