The Facebook page of the Embassy of Japan also shared the photos, saying, “Amb. Koshikawa had a special guest at his residence! Do you know who this ketchup-loving #Pokemon is? Ambassador served him a plate of #Omurice, Japanese-style hospitality, and his best smile!”

Pikachu is one of the most recognizable characters of Pokemon, a Japanese franchise that covers games, trading cards, anime, films, books, manga, music, merch, and a theme park. The Pokemon has also become an icon and an ambassador of Japan, serving as the country’s official mascot in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In 2017, Pikachu and Hello Kitty were appointed as ambassadors of Osaka as part of the city’s winning bid to host the World Expo 2025.
