Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is officially getting his own biopic and production for it has already set sail with young actor-dancer Mccoy de Leon taking on the lead role!
In photos shared online, Mccoy is depicted as a pedicab driver hanging around Tondo, Manila where Yorme grew up struggling with poverty. The biopic, which is also slated to be a musical, will cover Yorme’s life, from being a garbage and food scavenger, to getting his big break in the 90s talent discovery show “That’s Entertainment,” to rising to fame as a bold and drama actor, and, finally to becoming a politician.
According to Director Joven Tan, it was because of Mccoy’s similarities with Isko as well as his talent for singing and dancing that made him the best choice for the role. Tan added that the biopic will also serve as a tribute to the late master showman, German Moreno, who hosted the iconic variety program that jumpstarted Isko’s career.
“Yorme: The Musical” is a co-production with Viva Films and Saranggola Productions, and is set for release this coming June 2021.
