WHEN IN MANILA sought permission from Aspiras to share her story with us.

“I have Leukemia and am currently on maintenance chemotherapy. I was a bit younger when I had it. I even remembered having one of my earliest chemotherapy sessions during my birthday, I was still confined that time, hahahaha.

About the photos, I was having my intravenous infusion while I was reviewing for my upcoming quizzes for my Accounting subjects. That was the time na di pa totally nagttake effect yung mga gamot so it was still manageable to study. It was also a school day, hence, me wearing my uniform. (I’m a BSMA student.) I was even asking when will the line be removed in order not to be late for my afternoon class. I was actually absent in my morning class to give way for my medications. Of course, health comes first.

[Right now, I’m], okay naman. Although napapansin ko talaga na mas mahina ako compared sa dati, like, mabilis akong mapagod, and marami ring restrictions due to my unstable blood counts. But kinakaya ko naman at least.

(Although I notice that I’m weaker now compared to before, like, I get tired easily, and I have a lot of restrictions because of my unstable blood counts. But I’m coping, at least.)

Honestly, I actually thought my Twitter was still on Private when I posted that on a Thursday night. Since my friends know naman my sickness, I tweeted those photos during one my study breaks and then turned off my phone after para makapagfocus na ulit ako sa review (so that I could focus once again on reviewing). Then the next day when I turned on my mobile data, bigla nalang akong nagulat na super daming notifications ng Twitter ko tas yun pala that studying tweet went viral already. (I got shocked to receive a lot of notifications on Twitter, then I found our that my studying tweet went viral already). I was really overwhelmed with the words of encouragement to keep on fighting, praying for you, and stuff. It was really heartwarming to know that I have inspired people in some ways.”
