Lack of Sleep Can Kill You?!?!?

How many hours do you sleep?

In this day and age, not getting enough sleep seems normal. #TeamNoSleep has been used thousands of times and not just for those who are working night shift, but also for most of the working class. Did you ever think that sleep deprivation can kill you, though?

The recommended hours of sleep by doctors is 7 to 9 hours, but many people get way less than that. Some are thankful that they even get an hour of sleep sometimes.

One of the biggest reasons why people don’t get enough sleep are their long working hours, something that Japan has had a crisis with for as long as I can remember. Don’t get us wrong; working hard is not a bad thing. However, you should also consider recharging your body much like you recharge your gadgets.

Neuroscientist and Sleep Expert Matthew Walker told Business Insider that the shorter your sleep is, the shorter your life span will be.

Sleep deprivation is linked to colon cancer and breast cancer, but the most visible thing that lack of sleep does to the human body is making your skin look dry, patchy, tired and it doesn’t heal when it gets damaged.

If you think a lack of sleep will help you lose weight, think again. When you don’t sleep as much, you will have a hard time controlling your impulses like your vices and your food intake, which are caused by hormonal imbalances.

Your heart is also at risk. In a study, those who didn’t sleep at all or didn’t sleep enough had elevated heart rates and increased blood pressure. All of these are risk factors that can lead to death.

Do you get at least 7 hours of sleep every night?
