Kroketten: Fun & Healthy Potato Dutch Snacks with a Pinoy twist!

 

 

If you’re not getting excited with the typical French fries or even the fad that is potato twists, then the Dutch-with-a-Pinoy-twist  Kroketten is the answer to your potato prayers! Deep fried mashed potato with nine flavors to choose from – ground beef, chicken, cheese, hotdog, mango, pork adobo, tuyo flakes, longganisa and bacon fillings. 

 

And yes, they are very affordable too! For just Php 20 only you’ll get 5 pieces of Miniballen in your choice of one filling. And if you want to have the freedom to choose the fillings that you want you’ll just need to pay Php 35 for 9 pieces of Miniballen! I know you’re now asking, what is Miniballen?

The Original Kroket comes in a normal oblong shape and is available in nine flavors too. There’s also a Kroketballen which is a crunchy potato balls, this one is truly ideal for everyone’s hungry appetite. The Miniballen is fun-sized potato balls and is best for sharing among friends!

The process of cooking the Miniballen, clockwise: (1) The preferred Miniballen filling is chosen; (2) The Miniballen are deep fried; (3) It will sit for a moment or two in paper towels for the excess oil to drip; and (4) It’s served to you!

 

 

They are best enjoyed with your preferred dip: garlic mayo, honey mustard, orange mayo, etc. From my Kroketten experience, I liked the chicken and cheese filling! The flavor is really in the mashed potato inside the crispy outer layer of the fun-sized potato snacks. But I really loved the tuyo flakes and mango! I didn’t expect to have that flavors to come out of this Dutch-inspired snacks.

 

But of the two, I think you’ll enjoy the mango filling! It has the sour taste of a green mango that will make you ask for a bagoong dip, but the reality is that you’re munching potato and not the fruit! The question is, what kind of sorcery is that? Right! But, I need not ask because I loved every bite of the flavor.

 

It’s a perfect snack when you’re going to catch a movie with your friends or family  or when you’re on your way home, because the kiosk is in the terminal, because it will really make you full, we must remember that potato can be a substitute for rice! And don’t forget to pair it with the thirst-quenching Vers en Snel by Kroketten. Which has two flavors, the luscious mango-guyabano (Nutri 10) and strawberry-passion fruit (Revita 10). VES are available in 12-oz. and 16-oz. cups and the good news is there’s no white sugar added in this drinks but only the presence of natural sugars of the fresh fruits.
