The Filipino-American singer-songwriter and actor revealed that he and his team were behind the music for J Castles. The recently opened immersive theme park located in Tanauan, Batangas is co-owned by Daniel Padilla.

According to Kris Lawrence, his collaboration with J Castles started when South Border’s Jay Durias requested him to be the voice of the theme park’s theme song, Let There Be Lights. “I was also asked to sing another song (Sky Full of Colors), which was played during the soft opening’s fireworks display,” Kris Lawrence recalled.

“After, I’ve been holding regular songwriting camps there, where I would go and set up my studio, bring a producer and a team of writers with us, and I think it was during our second or third visit when we were asked to do the music for the rest of the rooms,” The Kung Malaya Lang Ako singer continued.

Teaming up with music producer/composer/DJ Cursebox, Kris Lawrence tackled a new challenge for J Castles. While they’d collaborated before, creating the theme park’s soundscapes proved to be a “novel challenge” they couldn’t resist.

“It was an honor to be part of the first ‘Disneyland’ of Tanauan,” Kris Lawrence said, acknowledging the significance of the project. The challenge, however, was “to haul our equipment from room to room, soaking up the vibe and creating the music on the spot.”

“For instance, they have this one crystal room, and it’s just a room full of mirrors, crystal, and LED, and we had to create this vibe that was like magical, meditative – just a serene and tranquil vibe. So, I brought my handpan and played live handpan music. Cursebox played flute,” Kris Lawrence expounded. “It was a whole magical vibe.”

In addition, although their work primarily focused on instrumental, surreal soundscapes, they also incorporated some original songs. Nevertheless, all their hard work paid off after hearing their music during the theme park’s soft opening earlier this month.

“It was a proud ‘goosebumps’ moment when we heard the music for the very first time, together with all the futuristic visuals, especially seeing that people were enjoying the immersive experience,” Kris Lawrence remarked. And apparently, there are still more to come. Kris Lawrence teased, “We’re still not done with all the music. There’s bound to be revisions and changes here and there, but overall, we’re happy with the outcome.”

Furthermore, another Kris Lawrence single will also be dropped in June produced by Cursebox. “We make a good team,” he said, hinting at their successful partnership that extends beyond the theme park project.
