In Weverse, a South Korean online platform, Lara revealed that she identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community, calling herself a “half fruitcake.” The term can also be interpreted as “queer.”
โI knew I was half fruitcake when I was like 8, so I really was wanting everybody,โ she said. โHonestly, before 8.โ
She added: โIsn’t half fruitcake such a good way to explain it without saying it?โ
The 19-year-old singer also opened up about how she was scared of “coming out” before debuting because it would “ruin” her chances of being a part of the popular girl group.
โWhen Dream Academy came out, I was really scared, to be honest, because I didnโt know if people would accept me, and I thought it might ruin my chances of getting in,โ she shared.
She also expressed how thankful she has been for the people around her, as well as her fans for being supportive: “Iโm so grateful that people in my life, and you guys, too, have been so supportive, so I feel so proud of it and no shame at all. You gave me so much love and support, and it made me feel so confident in who I am.โ
KATSEYE is a multinational girl group formed through the 2023 reality show Dream Academy. A year later, they debuted with the single “Debut” and followed it up with the viral hit “Touch.”
