Jones Cup 2011: Smart Gilas-South Korea Game Result

It’s Day Five of the William Jones Cup 2011 in Taipei, and sad to say but Smart Gilas Pilipinas has come short of breaking South Korea’s then 4-game winning streak. Final score of the game is 78-70.

Philippines was down 28-37 going on halftime. The team had problems in the rebounding area and they made only 8 out of 20 field goals in the first half. On the other hand, JV Casio exploded in the third quarter, helping Gilas to tie the game at 56-all. (JV Casio played despite being injured.)

Despite JV Casio’s attempts to save the game in the 3rd and 4th quarter, Smart Gilas still hasn’t been able to keep up with  South Korea. Casio teamed up with Mac Baracael to steward a 7-1 run that brought Gilas to 74-70. However, the Koreans took advantage of Marc Douhit’s fourth foul at the final 6 minutes of 4th quarter by scoring back-to-back baskets. Towards the end of the game, South Korea managed to score six straight points in a 10-0 run.

With 4 games left, Philippines now stands at 3-2 while South Korea remains at the unbeaten with 5-0. Smart Gilas will be facing United Arab Emirates for their next game and it will be aired later on AKTV (IBC 13) at 5PM. UAE is still winless as of the moment.
