Japanese PM to Name Adopted Philippine Eagle ‘Sakura’

Japanese Prime Ministed Shinzo Abe adopted a rescued Philippine eagle during his recent trip to the Philippines. What is even more interesting (and possibly an envy to many) is that it will be getting a Japanese name, Sakura (cherry blossoms).

The naming rites will beย heldย on January 13 at theย Waterfront Hotel in Lanang, Davao City, which is President Rodrigo Duterteโ€™s hometown.

Although the Philippine eagle willย not attend the naming rites, since it will be stressful for it to leave its natural habitat, PM Abe will receive a photo instead.

According to theย Philippine Daily Inquirer,ย “The eagle, which had been shot with a pellet gun ย in the abdomen, was rescued last month near a river in Talaingod, Davao del Norte province.”

PM Abe was in the Philippines for a two-day state visit. He is the first foreign head of the state to visit President Duterte’s hometown.
