Industrial Engineering Expo 2026: Reimagining Local Industries Through Systems Thinking

The Industrial Engineering Expo (IEx), the annual convention organized by the UP Industrial Engineering Club, returns in 2026 as a premier learning and networking platform for students interested in systems thinking, innovation, and social impact. Gathering over 300 participants from various universities, IEx 2026 highlights how industrial engineering principles are applied across industries and communities to address real-world challenges.

Anchored on the theme “Tatag: Reimagining Local Industries,” the convention recognizes that many industries in the Philippines continue to operate under frameworks that may not fully reflect local contexts. Through its sessions, IEx aims to showcase alternative approaches grounded in local realities and informed by insights from practitioners, engineers, and community leaders.

The IEx sessions are designed to demonstrate how industrial engineering is embedded in day-to-day operations and decision-making across different sectors. These sessions allow participants to choose discussions that best match their interests and career goals. Sessions are offered either as talks or workshops, giving attendees the flexibility to learn through expert-led discussions or hands-on, application-focused activities. Topics range from technological innovation and operational efficiency to systems design, sustainability, and community-centered development.

Speakers invited to IEx 2026 come from diverse backgrounds, representing industry, non-government organizations, startups, and public institutions. Their sessions highlight how industrial engineering tools, such as process optimization and data-driven decision-making, can be adapted to strengthen local industries and address complex societal issues. By integrating perspectives from engineering, policy, design, and local knowledge, the sessions emphasize the importance of a transdisciplinary approach to problem-solving.

Complementing the sessions is “Praxis,” IEx’s NGO-oriented case competition, where students are challenged to develop actionable and implementable solutions for local communities. With judges from multiple sectors, Praxis reinforces IEx’s goal of translating learning into meaningful impact.

Through its strong focus on speakers, sessions, and applied learning, IEx 2026 continues to position itself as a space where learners engage deeply with industrial engineering while contributing to the reimagining of local industries and community-driven development.
