How Superheroes Reacted to Stan Lee Passing

Who didn’t know and love Stan Lee? The king of Marvel Comics is famous for bringing a whole new level of superhero storytelling to the world – and not just in comics, but onscreen, as well. Because of him, comic books became bigger than life itself and his passing has brought about heavy hearts all over the world. His family aside, some of the people who were the most affected by this are those whose careers blossomed thanks to his creations: the actors of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We’ve compiled some of their heartwarming messages for Stan Lee (so that we’re not the only ones crying):

Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man) posted a photo of him with Stan and a big emoji heart with the caption, “I owe it all to you. Rest in peace, Stan.”

Evangline Lilly (Wasp) posted a black-and-white photo of her with Stan, saying, “Stan, more than a master of stories, you always seemed like a master of living. I will look to you for inspiration for the rest of my life. You live on. xoxo Your Wasp”

Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) shared a photo of Stan in front of a big Hulk statue with the caption, “Sad, sad day. Rest In Power Uncle Stan. You have made the world a better place through the power of modern mythology and your love of this messy business of being human, you let us be extra human – superhuman even. I am deeply honored to have been a small part in the Stan Lee constellation.”

Tom Holland (Spider-Man) posted a photo of him beaming at Stan during an interview with the caption, “How many millions of us are indebted to this guy, none more so than me. The father of Marvel has made so many people so incredibly happy. What a life and what a thing to have achieved. Rest in peace, Stan.”

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) shared an adorable photo of Stan wearing a Thor helmet and holding Mjolnir in his hand with the caption: “my friend. Thank you for the incredible adventures your stories took all of us on. My love and support goes out to all your friends and family.”

Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) shared a selfie of him all smiles with Stan, saying, “Thank you, great legend. You will be missed. I wouldn’t be here without you.”

Chris Evans (Captain America), who isn’t on Instagram, tweeted, “There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!”

Josh Brolin (Thanos) posted a smiling photo of Stan Lee dated 1922-2018, saying, “Stan Lee and Dr. Seuss and Ray Bradbury. That’s where it begins and ends with me. To those of us who have been so deeply affected by the humanity of his imagination, the understanding of reaching beyond our potential and the necessity of tapping into our immeasurable imaginations, we thank you and are forever indebted. Rest In Peace Dear Stan. You made our time here a better one.”

Anthony Mackie (Falcon) tweeted: “You were a man before your time… now it feels like you are gone before your time. RIP Stan the Man… thanks for the laughs and words of support. It’s a honor to live in your universe.”
