Morning Sun Eatery, a modest carinderia in Quezon City, is now basking in newfound attention after receiving a Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin Guide. The recognition, announced during the inaugural Michelin Guide: Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026 ceremony, honors restaurants that serve high-quality food at reasonable prices.

The Michelin Guide awards stars to exceptional restaurants, highlights other notable establishments as “Recommended,” and recognizes good-value, high-quality eateries with the Bib Gourmand distinction.
Morning Sun Eatery joins 24 other Philippine establishments that made the list.
Known for its affordable and flavorful Filipino dishes, the eatery’s specialties include kilawin, inihaw na baboy, pinakbet, and laing.
Owner Elizabeth Mortera has been running the carinderia for three decades.
“Thirty years na po kami. Dito nga kami nakapag-umpisa, nakapag-aral na ‘yung mga anak ko. Tiyaga lang po,” Mortera shared in an interview with 24 Oras.
Since receiving the award, Morning Sun Eatery has seen a steady stream of curious customers eager to try its home-style cooking.
For Mortera, the recognition shines a light on the hardworking hands behind small eateries that have long fueled local communities.
“Maraming maraming salamat po sa inyo dahil napapakilala niyo po ‘yung maliit na karinderya po namin,” she said.
With this new distinction, Morning Sun Eatery proves that great food doesn’t have to come from high-end kitchens—it can also be found in the heart of a neighborhood carinderia.
