Here’s How Much Your Daily Commute Will Cost With the Fare Hikes

Commuters should expect to pay more when taking public transportation starting Thursday, March 19, 2026, as fares for jeepneys, buses, and ride-hailing cars have been adjusted. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said the changes were prompted by higher fuel prices and other operational costs.

LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza described the decision as challenging, noting that fuel prices have fluctuated sharply due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In setting the new fares, the agency considered fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, spare parts, types of service, and the increase in the national minimum wage over the last few years.

The fare adjustments are currently provisional and will be finalized in June. Mendoza said that if fuel prices drop significantly, the LTFRB could also consider lowering fares.

Jeepneys

  • Traditional jeepneys now have a minimum fare of ₱14, up from ₱13, with each additional kilometer costing ₱2 instead of ₱1.80.

  • Modern jeepneys have a minimum fare of ₱17, up from ₱15, with per-kilometer charges rising to ₱2.40 from ₱2.20.

Buses

  • Regular city buses: Minimum fare increases to ₱15 from ₱13, while the per-kilometer rate is now ₱2.49.

  • Air-conditioned buses: Minimum fare rises to ₱18 from ₱15, with per-kilometer charges increasing to ₱2.98.

Ride-Hailing Cars

Base fares for ride-hailing cars increase by ₱20 across all vehicle types. Per-kilometer and per-minute rates remain unchanged.

Point-to-Point (P2P) Buses

Fares on P2P buses also went up by about 15%. A short route like Ortigas to Makati will cost ₱69, while a long route like NAIA to Clark (113 km) will increase to ₱460.

Airport Taxis

Airport taxi flag-down rates rose to ₱115 from ₱75 for the first 500 meters. Rates for distances beyond the first 500 meters and waiting time remain unchanged.

Provincial Buses

Provincial bus fares, which were updated on March 14, 2026, vary by type:

  • Air-conditioned Super Deluxe/Deluxe: ₱0.35 per km

  • Luxury: ₱0.45 per km

  • Ordinary: ₱1 base fare + ₱0.30 per succeeding km

Motorcycle taxi fares are still under review following a recent petition from riders.
