A former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate is dipping her toes into the beauty pageant scene as one of the contestants of Miss Universe United Arab Emirates 2021.
Franki Russell, who was part of the fourth batch of “Pinoy Big Brother 8” surprised all when she announced her entry to Miss Universe UAE, and on the first year that the country is ever joining the global pageant.

“I am so inspired by everything this pageant stands for,” she said on an Instagram post. “Diversity, celebrating women from all walks of life, empowerment and breaking stereotypes.”
“Stepping out of my comfort zone never felt so good,” she added.
In a separate tweet, she addressed the concerns of fans and followers regarding her choice to join a foreign pageant. “It may not be the flag you prefer, but I am so excited because this particular pageant represents a lot more than that,” she wrote.
“I always want to try something new and challenge myself every day, while having fun and staying true to who I am. Let’s grow and step out of our comfort zones together,” she continued.
She also expressed gratitude to all those who’ve expressed their support so far. “I see you and I feel so blessed,” she said.

Franki, who is Filipino-New Zealander by nationality, currently resides in Dubai, UAE. According to the rules of the competition, residents who have stayed in UAE for at least three years and have a valid Emirates ID and passport can join.
The first Miss Universe UAE pageant is scheduled to be held on November 7, 2021.
