Filipino Graduates Summa Cum Laude from Yale University With a Perfect 4.00 GPA

A 21-year-old Filipino student, Dion Stephan Ong, graduated summa cum laude from Yale University in the United States with a perfect 4.00 grade point average (GPA).

He was among the 4,000 students who graduated during the prestigious Ivy League school’s 323rd Commencement ceremony on May 20. Ong earned combined degrees of Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Science.

According to a report by Manila Bulletin, he received the Distinction in the Major and the Yale Science & Engineering Association (YSEA) Senior of Distinction award. The 21-year-old was also an inductee at the Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the US.

Ong graduated valedictorian from Ateneo de Manila Senior High School in 2020. He will be working as a core developer at Hudson River Trading, a trading firm in New York City.
