As they have run similar like hiding tests with Instagram, Facebook also plans on doing the exact same thing with the posts we see on our feed.
Facebook has confirmed with TechCrunch that they are considering hiding the “Like” counter that we see in our News Feeds. The company has also refused to share what their test results are for when they have done the same thing with Instagram and the hidden likes test is not live for users as of the moment.
The system Instagram is testing shows people a few names of mutual friends who have liked a post, rather than the total number
TechCrunch states that Facebook will be doing this move in moderation wherein it will be discontinued if it does not do well with the users and could possibly be difficult to gain income from.
Regarding why Facebook is considering hiding the like count on all our posts, Technologyreview states that it is linked to the cause of helping the users’ mental health.
Apparently, individuals compare the number of likes they get in comparison to their Facebook friends which causes them to refrain from posting stuff about them. When users are not sharing what interests them, Facebook has fewer data to share with advertisers.
The company has not confirmed when it will be live for users to test or when it plans on doing so.
