If the gross box office is compared from 2009 up to the last Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), it shows that the recent has the lowest sales.
In 2009, MMFF earned box office sales of P437.6 million.
In 2010, they earned P530 million. The following year, they recorded P636 million then P767 million in 2012. In 2013, they had gross sales close to a billion, that is P999.
3 million. In 2014, MMFF broke the billion mark earnings with P1.
014 billion and they earned P1.020 billion in 2015.
The last one, in 2016, MMFF has earned only P373.3 million from showing the movies between December 25, 2016 and January 3, 2017.
Although, a lower compared to the previous years, some say that does not mean the quality of the movies has decreased. Moreover, since a handful of the films are indie, it means they had lower budgets compared to the previous MMFF entries. Furthermore, the recent MMFF didn’t show all movies in the whole country. MMFF entries were shown in Metro Manila theaters but many theaters outside the city rotated a few MMFF entries while retaining popular movie franchises.
