While there have been many previous speculations about a possible third installment of the Princess Diaries, it seems that this latest news is a lot closer to a possibility.
The author of the YA novel series, Meg Cabot, just confirmed that a script to Princess Diaries 3 does indeed exist!
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she says that it will “kind of” be a tribute to the late director of the first two movies, Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016.

Unfortunately, the author isn’t allowed to reveal what’s going to be in the script, but at least we know that a script exists.
That’s honestly good enough for us.
As for what it’s going to be about, let’s leave it to our imaginations first. Will we be seeing a royal wedding between Princess Mia (played by Anne Hathaway) and Nicholas (played by Chris Pine)? Will we catch a glimpse of Queen Clarisse’s new married life? We can’t say for sure, but at least it’s happening!
