Dulaang Filipino, the resident theater company of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, proudly returns to the stage with a new production of Batang Rizal Muzikal, running from October 1 to 7, 2025, at the 6/F Black Box Theater, Design + Arts Campus.
Directed by Norbs Portales with original music by Vince Lim, this vibrant adaptation brings a fresh perspective to a well-loved Filipino story that continues to resonate across generations. Lim, reflecting on the revival of his music, shared, “Nabigyan ng halaga yung mga kanta na ginawa ko,” expressing his pride in seeing his compositions once again brought to life on stage.
Batang Rizal Muzikal follows the journey of Pepito, a modern-day boy who unexpectedly travels back in time to meet the young José Rizal. Through humor, music, and heartfelt moments, the production explores themes of identity, courage, and the enduring legacy of the national hero. Audiences are invited to rediscover Rizal’s story through the lens of childhood innocence and creativity.
As Benilde’s resident theater company, Dulaang Filipino has long been committed to creating productions that not only entertain but also educate and inspire. This latest staging of Batang Rizal Muzikal underscores the company’s mission to bring Filipino stories to the stage while nurturing the next generation of theater artists.
