In a statement, the local government agency noted that the TV host’s decision to get a vasectomy “exemplifies responsible parenthood and family planning,” emphasizing only 0.1% of Filipino men have had a vasectomy.
“We need more men like Mr. Arellano to encourage men to assume greater responsibility in ensuring the well-being of their partner and their children through responsible parenthood and family planning,” the statement read.
“This comes as good news amidst the prevailing low level of participation of males in family planning. This is evidenced by the mere 0.1% of Filipino men accepting no-scalpel vasectomy. Currently, family planning is exercised mostly by women,” it added.
The CPD also promoted its Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa Pamilya (KATROPA) program, which encourages men to give a higher level of care to their wives or partners.
Vasectomy is a form of birth control for males that blocks the sperm from reaching the semen through a surgical procedure.
On April 28, Drew announced that he had a vasectomy after recently welcoming his fifth child with his wife, Iya Villania.
The couple has been married since 2014. They have five children: Primo, Leon, Alana, Astro, and Anya.
