Amid stricter community quarantine guidelines, the Philippines has detected its first case of the new coronavirus variant. The first Lambda variant case is a 35-year-old female, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Previously asymptomatic and tagged as recovered after undergoing the 10-day isolation period, the patient is reportedly being validated at the moment as to whether she is a local or returning overseas Filipino case. The DOH is now said to be conducting backtracing and case investigation.
The Lambda variant which was first seen in Peru in December 2020 was classified as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization on June 14, 2021.
Meanwhile, the DOH also reported that the number of cases of the Delta variant in the country is now at 807.
