Digital Photography Class for Beginners When in Manila

Like most photography enthusiasts, most of us have probably had our DSLR cameras for a while now without having had any lessons beforehand. When in Manila and you’re thinking of taking up photography as a hobby, a basic digital photography class is best to attend first before setting out experimenting on your own. I myself have been doing “intuitive” photography for a while now and after attending Sir Nicolay‘s class, I now know settings I’ve been missing out on.

Here’s Sir James Nicolay explaining to us some photography terms.

What makes a class fun for me is when the teacher/instructor is very likeable and you can tell upfront that he really is an expert at what he’s teaching. Since a digital photography class for beginners is already interesting by itself, as soon as I met Sir Nicolay, my immediate impression was that I was in for a really fun class.

I got to meet two fellow When in Manila writers, this is Ryan. Taking paparazzi shots of our classmates. Hehe. 😛

There are a lot of photography tutorial sites on the internet but nothing beats learning techniques and concepts from an expert in person. It’s really different when you get to try out the exercises using your own camera and then troubleshooting  the errors practically.

Here are two of the shots that I took during the class. Not bad eh?

After attending Sir Nicolay’s basic digital photography class, I now know what it means when I fiddle around with the shutter speed, ISO and aperture of my camera. It was very confusing to me at first but Sir Nicolay made it very easy to understand.

When I came home from the class that day, here are my ponderings from it.

  • I now have a renewed passion for photography which I’m very grateful for. Although I do get so busy sometimes with work and other stuff, I realize that this is a hobby I really want to get good at so I would have to devote time for it.
  • I’m very eager to learn more advanced techniques and thankfully, Sir Nicolay offers them too. There’s a variety of sub-topics and techniques for advanced photography that I really want to try my hand at.
  • It really doesn’t matter how expensive one’s pro camera is. It might as well be a plaything at the hands of someone who doesn’t have a “creative eye” and who wouldn’t  know how to conceptualize their shots.
  • I’m also now more confident to fiddle around with my camera. I used to not want to touch anything I’m not sure of. This digital photography class for beginners changed that.

Sir Nicolay will personally see if you’ve got the settings of your camera right and he’ll troubleshoot for you if you run into a glitch then guide you for tweaking at optimal settings.

How about you? Do you see yourself becoming a professional photographer someday or even just a hobbyist? Well, When in Manila and you plan on becoming just that, make an appointment for one of Sir Nicolay’s classes and I assure you, you’d come out a much better photographer than before.
