“Despacito” is Now Tied with “One Sweet Day” as the Longest-Running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

It’s official: Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s hit song “Despacito” has stayed on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks, tying with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which has the held for the longest-running number one hit on the charts for 21 years.

Apart from this record, “Despacito” is currently the most streamed song with 4.6 billion streams across all platforms, and its music video is now the most viewed video on YouTube with more than three billion views.

“Despacito” is the first song to have tied with “One Sweet Day.

” The last song to have attempted to break the record was Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ 2014 song “Uptown Funk.” However, its top spot was dethroned after 14 weeks.

“Uptown Funk” shares the record with The Black Eyed Peas for “I Gotta Feeling,” Mariah Carey for “We Belong Together,” Elton John for “Candle in the Wind 1997″/”Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” Los Del Rio for “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix),” Boyz II Men for “I’ll Make Love to You,” and Whitney Houston for “I Will Always Love You.”

If “Despacito” remains at the top for another week, it will break another record.
