Looking for a place to learn freestyle dance when in Manila? Look no further, because as soon as tomorrow, dancer Phil Pamintuan of Tha Project (Philippine representatives, World Hip Hop International dance competition 2012) has yet another dance class open to anyone interested.

Dance is a big part of the Manila urban scene and college-turned-professional dance choreographers such as Phil are big reasons why the culture is growing more than ever. A dance class occurs virtually anywhere in Manila on a monthly, sometimes weekly, basis so the aspiring hip hop dancer is never lacking in options. This Saturday, the dance class on freestyle by Phil stands out for three reasons.
The Choreographer
Phil was a member of the Company of Ateneo Dancers (or CADs, as they are commonly known in the dance community), and still keeps in touch with his roots by choreographing the occasional dance piece for them. Of late, he competed in the World Hip Hop International dance competition, held in Las Vegas, just weeks ago with Tha Project, a relatively new dance crew but packed with some of the best talents in Manila. He is also an experienced performer, and actually immerses himself in dance battles – making him a very well-rounded choreographer.
A not-to-miss dance class!
The Cause
His dance class tomorrow, which will be held at the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), is part of the Project 1 Benefit Workshops of AdMU. He will be teaching his dance class along with other notable Atenean alumni who also happen to be choreographers like him. Unlike the typical dance class or workshop where, understandably, the proceeds go to paying for studio rental, the choreographer’s fees, and other miscellaneous items, Project 1 will be selecting a non-profit organization after the event which will receive all the proceeds of the day.
The Class
I have actually taken a dance class or two under Phil back when I used to dance more, and his classes are so much more than JUST dance. He teaches his personal philosophies through and with his talent, and he is not shy to share his faith with his students. Newbie dancer or seasoned competitor alike are regular attendees of his classes – just go and experience it!
The freestyle dance class by Phil Pamintuan is happening tomorrow, September 15, at 3F Gonzaga, Gonzaga Studio, Ateneo de Manila University. His class is from 3:00pm to 4:30pm and is only PHP 100.00 per attendee (it’s a steal, so GO!).
