More Than 70% of This Vegan Restaurant’s Customers Aren’t Vegan

Being a vegan entails a lot of commitment. According to the Vegan Society, it’s a way of living that avoids the exploitation of animals to gratify human needs. While some do this for dietary reasons, others adhere to this lifestyle as a protest to animal cruelty. As such, several establishments now serve scrumptious meals without breaking their noble cause – and one of them is Cosmic.

Cosmic is a vegan restaurant hidden along General Luna, Poblacion (clue: it’s located above a Ministop convenience store). The name arrived from the concept of endless possibilities—appropriate for the wide array of amazing and delicious transformative dishes that they offer.

In fact, it’s so good that you might be surprised to learn that 70% of their customers aren’t vegan—and that’s fine with them. The owners of the place want to share the beauty of vegan food with a broader market, after all, and expose them to the understanding that plant-substitute products can be delicious and sustainable at the same time.

As a result of imaginative recipes, Cosmic turns your typical Filipino comfort meals into vegan food, making each item taste almost (if not exactly) like meat. Their clever use of ingredients, spices, and cooking methods also make their food perfect for transitioning vegans who are still adjusting to the lifestyle.

Battered Nori Seaweed, Enoki Mushroom, and King Oyster Mushroom

Tempura Combo Platter (Good for 1-2 pax | P150)

Composed of three types of tempura, this platter is a great appetizer to start your meal. It’s crispy on the outside and tender in the inside—similar to chicken! It also comes with your choice of dip. I recommend the Sriracha Mayo, a soy-based mayonnaise with a good kick of Sriracha and garlic.

Kare-Kare with Bagnet (Good for 1-2 pax | P150)

This is their signature dish that you can’t miss out on. Indulge in its savory peanut sauce and its “meat”, which is made of soy protein with vegetable starch. Looks-wise and taste-wise, you’d think it’s real meat!

Sisig with Bagnet (Good for 1-2 pax | P170)

Made with crunchy bagnet, tofu, and wheat protein-based gluten, it’s just like the sisig we all know and love. You need to try it with their garlic rice.

Scrambled Tofu-Egg Platter (Good for 1-2 pax | P150)

Right off the bat, the scrambled eggs look legitimate, but don’t be fooled. Instead of eggs, they use tofu with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and turmeric. The longganisa, on the other hand, is a soy-based product that’s made from scratch at their commissary kitchen. You may opt to order Special Bagnet or Cordon Bleu instead of the Longganisa, as well.

Vegan Spinach Lasagna (Good for 1 pax | P200)

Believe it or not, this lasagna doesn’t have any dairy in it. The main ingredients used are tofu and spinach. The bechamel sauce is carefully created using coconut cream, cashew milk, and more.

Cosmic Mushroom Burger (Good for 1-2 pax | P150)

In the mood for burgers? Their special Cosmic Mushroom Burger is another one of their bestsellers. The mushroom patty is made from scratch and sandwiched between quality sour bread dough. You’re sure to enjoy munching on this tender, irresistible burger.
