Early in 2016, rumors broke that a Charmed reboot was in the works, and former Charmed actress Alyssa Milano was quick to take to Twitter to confirm the news. But at the time, no other news had yet been released; the reboot was just in the earliest stages of conception. But now, almost a year later, new details about the reboot has surfaced, and here’s what we know so far:
A new network is doing the reboot.
The original “Charmed” series that ran for eight seasons in 1998 to 2006 ran on The WB Network, but the reboot is reportedly going to air under the CW Network, which is also the home of popular series like the DC series, Jane the Virgin, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and more.
The reboot will be set in the 1970s.
Call it a prequel, perhaps. But unlike the original Charmed which was set in the 90s, the reboot is reportedly starting in 1976.
So hippie witches, maybe? Say, yes!
The original cast won’t be returning.
As the reboot will be set in the 70s, it is only obvious that our favorite witch sisters, the Halliwells, won’t be cast in the show. Although we’re hoping the story will still run in the family! Maybe we’ll get a glimpse of the sisters’ mother’s life, Patty, as a young witch? And their grandmother, Penny? It’s a possibility.
No one is cast yet.
There have been no news in casting yet as the series is apparently still in the writing stage. But as far as we know, the original cast wishes nothing but the best for the reboot.
Actress Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell in the original series, tweeted the following after fresh news of the Charmed reboot surfaced:
We wish them well.
