Q: Outside Third World Linux, what are the other podcasts in channelfourteen.com?

Joao: “There’s Third World Gaming with the Ironic Gamer and Xaxal who live in the same city so there’s no ‘logistical problem’ there. They talk about video games and how it is seen in the country. We also have Bodega Nights, which is interesting where we have the Cebu crew (Joao, Ironic Gamer and Xaxal)  and the Manila crew (A.G. and our friends Norm and John) to record stuff. We also have the Sunstar Podcast, and that usually talks about the ‘newsy’ stuff.”

Q:  What are your other roles at channelfourteen.com aside from recording and uploading the podcasts?

A.G.: “Our other responsibility is to oversee everything of the site. Our role amongst our friends, if anyone of them wants to do a podcast, we give them the tools and teach them how to do it. Basically Joao and I provide platform on the way that we do it, or how you would perform on the mic, or how would you plan out the show (topics, outlines, etc.). We also have rules like ‘no bigotry’ or ‘watch the F bombs’. We don’t want to take away what everyone’s used to but, at the end of the day, you don’t want to sound like a d****e. Simple as that. You really just want to share about things to an audience. If they are willing to listen, you’re lucky. If they’re not, it’s ok.”

Q: What’s your favorite episode from Third World Linux?

A.G.: “The episode where we talked about the perfect Linux distro for the third world. (author’s notes: Third World Linux ep 11). I had a lot of fun and at the same time, it was full of information. Linux in the third world.: Why it should be adopted/used here [in the Philippines] and stuff. I also like the episode where we gave Linux the ‘Third World Treatment’.”

Joao: “I liked the episode where we talked about the perfect Linux distro. I really liked it because that IS what the show is all about, talking about Linux and it being ‘Third Worldable’. By ‘Third Worldable’, take everything you associate with the third world, like something that works in that context is Third Worldable. Though I like to define it as ‘that special something’. You’ll know it when you feel it. I also liked the one where we talked about the small Linux distro reviews, those were fun. It’s not the size of the distro, it’s the motion of the disk.”

Q: What podcasts do you like to watch or listen to?

A.G.: “My biggest inspiration and favorite podcast to listen to is ‘Rooster Teeth’. They started only with ‘Red vs Blue’ and then they expanded into YouTube and then their own gaming commercial since they do animation. They pretty much, for me, the ideal internet company. They perfected the model. I also watch Freddie W of Rocket Jump Productions. They have their own series like videogame high school. Those two things are what a perfect model of an internet based company should be. I also listen to Jupiter broadcasting, a podcast-based network that discusses various topics.”

Joao: “Jupiter Broadcasting. Those guys are amazing. Specifically I can cite ‘Coder Radio’ by Michael Dominic, who’s like this really ‘angry’ programmer. I also listen to Everyday Linux by Element Opie. Their name is really cool as well, like why is it ‘Element Opie?’ L-M-N-O-P. Get it? *Laughs* Wow, clever. But yeah, their show [Everyday Linux] is a show about life in the context of Linux. I also listen to ‘Serial’. I listen to a lot of podcasts honestly.

But yeah I also love Rooster Teeth podcasts. ‘The Stuff You Should Know’ podcast is also amazing stuff.”

Q: What are the future projects channelfourteen.com is looking for in the year 2015?

A.G.: “We’re looking to have some ‘Let’s Plays’ in the future. The guys at Third World Gaming are spearheading it.  They got the capture card and the audio tools. Hopefully it’ll be up by this month, so watch out for that one on our site’s YouTube page. “

Joao: “There’s also another podcast idea I’m working on. So I’m semi-announcing this: There will be a law-based podcast in the future.”

A.G.: “This is not our ‘day job’ per se, we have other things we got to take care of. That IS the dream, to make this as the day job, but we still have our own thing. This is really a ‘passion project’. It just all comes back to how this thing is about just us friends hanging out and talking through the podcasts. That’s why there’s also Bodega Nights, with the premise of just a bunch of friends hanging out.”

Q: Do you have any tips for aspiring podcasters?

A.G.: “Just do it! We are now in the point in history where ‘the middle man’ can be cut off. We don’t need a recording studio or an expensive audio editor to record a podcast. If you wanna do vids on YouTube, have a camera with you and a decent movie editor and you can have a YouTube show. Production wise, it’s very easy. Again, if you’re thinking of doing something right now…go ahead and do it. If you don’t have money right now, always find a way. It’s not a hurdle. If you really want to do it, you’ll find a way to do it. You don’t really have much of an excuse except that you’re lazy or something.”

Joao: “Don’t. Nah that’s what they usually say. If you ask me, do it! Do it….#ForLove”

Q: Ok…ok…ok, since you guys have been plugging it so much in the interview…WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY #ForLove?!

Joao:  “It’s an inside joke and it’s also Linux related. It had something to do with AG’s interaction with the women who eventually became his girlfriend or something. I gave him a video to give to his girlfriend; it was from a reputable news agency. I told him to give it to her ‘for love’, or something like that. It eventually became our battle cry. The hashtag is there because it’s one of the more contemporary signs of expressions in social media these days. That’s basically it.”

Q: Hmmm..not bad. Would you like to give some shoutouts to your listeners?

A.G.: “Thank you to the  Faithful 14’” the term for our listeners. To our future listeners, we hope you’ll enjoy our show. Thank you to everyone who listens to the show and those who try to listen. And I hope everyone enjoys. We do this for #ForLove, one of the inside sayings on the show. Do it for love. ….#ForLove

There’s a handful of things I can take away from this interview with Joao and A.G. about channelfourteen.com and on podcasting. First, anyone can do a podcast if they ‘just do it’. At first it sounds impossible but with channelfourteen.com’s track record, it is possible when you put your mind to it. Second, I just found a local version of podcastone.com or roosterteeth in channelfourteen.com! Finally, and most important point of all, podcasting is one of the things that we can do #ForLove. Wheninmanila.com would like to thank A.G and Joao of channelfourteen.com for this interview. More power to you guys and more power to podcasting in the Philippines.  Also, don’t forget, if you do something, do it…#ForLove
