The Cast of “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” Talks About Their Chemistry on Set

Have you started watching Hometown Cha Cha Cha on Netflix yet? (If you haven’t, you really should!) Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is the story of Seoul city-girl Hye-jin who arrives at the seaside village of Gongjin after leaving her job and what unfolds upon her arrival. Two episodes in and it is proving to be a fun and funny rom-com we can’t wait to watch unfold. We were lucky enough to be able to join an online press con with the cast recently where they talked about their chemistry on set. Here’s what they had to say.

Shin Min-a says she thinks the chemistry was really good. Despite the high expectations she knew existed even before they started filming, she admits she didn’t feel a lot of pressure. “I really enjoyed acting on set with Kim Seon-ho,” she gushes. “He’s a really good person and a comfortable person to be around. I think our good chemistry and flexibility are portrayed through our acting.”

Seon-ho totally agrees with Min-a. “Shin Min-a has good character and she’s really nice,” he explains. “She accepts playful words and actions we say or do. She’s a comfortable person to be around.” Lee Sang-yi adds, “Shin Min-a is really considerate and thinks about the people around her. I haven’t had a very long experience in the industry yet, but these more experienced actors, as well as the director, helped me a lot.”

Sang-yi also shared that they have all become quite close now – like friends. “We can play jokes on each other. Even if it’s silent, it doesn’t feel awkward. If I say something funny, they’ll enjoy it. I feel that they really know me and I know them. I feel like I’ve been accepted by these great people, so it was a really special experience,” he says. In fact, he thinks the series will have a lasting impression on him what with it being a huge experience for the actor and from everything that he has learned from both Seon-ho and Min-a.

The feeling is definitely mutual as Seon-ho raves that he was amazed by Sang-yi on set.  “I think he is really gifted in acting and I always learn a lot from him actually,” he admits. “He’s really talented and I think the director feels the same way. He’s an actor with great potential and is recognized by everyone on set. He has a lot of ideas and we have a lot of fun filming the drama on set.”

Of course, we had to talk about the Sikhye couple in particular, which is what they are already being called. Coming from their individual names, HYE-jin and Du-SIK, sikhye is also a traditional Korean rice punch that makes a memorable appearance in the show. When asked how they feel about their tandem, Seon-ho says, “I think the rhythm in which we deliver our lines is something that can be appealing to viewers. I think the relationship between the two characters will be very interesting.”

Min-a says, “Hye-jin and Du-sik bicker and they don’t like each other at first. At the same time, I think the audience will see that they are alike in some ways. I think that will be something to look forward to.”

I don’t know about you but I’m already super kilig by the chemistry between these two? What do you think of Hometown Cha Cha Cha so far? In case you haven’t started watching yet, here’s the trailer to hopefully get you to do so:
