According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word “manifest” has been searched nearly 130,000 times on their website, making it one of the most viewed words of the year.

On their website, “manifest” is defined as a verb that means “to show something clearly, through signs or actions.” In a much more modern sense, manifesting is done when you focus your mind on something and hope that it materializes in real life—for example, manifesting that you will secure concert tickets for your favorite artist or manifesting that you will land your dream job.

The 600-year-old word gained massive popularity in mainstream media after it was used by celebrities, artists, athletes, and influencers, who credited their achievements to having “manifested” them.

Notable instances of manifesting include Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift’s friendship. In 2008, nine-year-old Sabrina sang Taylor’s song “White Horse.” In February 2024, they performed “White Horse” together at the Eras Tour in Sydney.

Pop star Dua Lipa also spoke about how manifestations come to reality during her headline performance at Glastonbury, where she sang in front of a 100,000 crowd.

“I’ve written this moment down and wished for it and dreamt it and worked so hard,” Dua said during the performance.

Whether you call it luck or the law of attraction, Filipino celebrities have their share of manifestation stories as well. This includes Pia Wurtzbach’s “manifestation tweet” back in 2015 when she was about to compete for the Miss Universe.

“Kalma lang guys. Ako bahala. Babawi tayo sa Miss Universe,” Pia wrote, and indeed, she brought home the Philippines’ third Miss Universe crown.

Another iconic manifestation story is when Maine Mendoza tweeted “Arjo Cutie” in 2013, not knowing that she would actually end up marrying Arjo Atayde ten years later.
