Bringing Classy Back: The Manila Hotel To Undergo Renovations

Room

I was lucky to have been invited to stay at the Manila Hotel. Aside from touring the hotel and meeting the executives for dinner at the Mabuhay Palace, staying for the night completed my experience of the Grand Dame.

The Grand Deluxe Room

My friend Nikko Panti and I stayed at a Grand Deluxe room. It’s a wide bedroom with an old-world charm and modern facilities, including a flat-screen TV and free wi-fi. The beds look classic but are extremely comfortable, with memory foam pillows. And if you have to ask, you can never have enough pillows.

The room also has a desk with complete office supplies, a sitting area with a low table for snacks, and enough closet space for clothes. It’s a spacious room perfect for staycations. However, if you’re planning to spend a staycation with a special someone or a group of friends, we advise the Superior Deluxe Room with one big bed. You’ll be pushing your luck if you try to fit two people in the single bed.

The view from the Grand Deluxe

We had a fantastic view of Intramuros and the city of Manila. From our room, we could the Intramuros golf course, the National Museum, and Luneta Park. The view was even better at night.

The Grand Deluxe bathroom

I fell in love with the bathroom the instant I saw it. It was wide and spacious, not like other hotel bathrooms that have been put as an afterthought. It had a marble tub (with optional TV), a separate shower with a rainfall showerhead, and the best part: Acca Kappa toiletries. I must admit, I spent many showers just feeling the luxurious Italian soap and the hot water.

Verdict

Overall, my stay at the Manila Hotel was fantastic. The service was beyond amazing. Everyone was courteous, graceful, and accommodating. The food at Mabuhay Palace was perfect. The rooms, restaurants, and facilities are still topnotch, even after 102 years.

The Manila Hotel has placed itself at the center of vintage and contemporary. And as the Grand Dame is about to experience a massive facelift, it’s curious to see how she will maintain that balance in the next 100 years. And I have a good feeling she will still be as fabulous.
