For those who have yet to watch “Given,” it tells the story of a high school boy named Ritsuka Uenoyama who, after hearing his singing voice, gets Mafuyu Sato to be part of his band. But as their friendship deepens, Mafuyu must now learn to finally move on from his painful past.

The release date was announced on Twitter last week to be on August 22, about three months after its initial schedule on May 16. The film will focus on the relationship between Uenoyama and Mafuyu’s two other bandmates, bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji, who must likewise need to deal with their own demons before they allow themselves to love and be loved by one another.

“Now, I’m very grateful that the film ‘given’ will be able to be released and that there are people who want to see it in this kind of situation. I think it’s a tremendous good fortune. I’m so glad, thank you,” manga author Natsuki Kizu said about the upcoming movie.

Film director Hikaru Yamaguchi added, “Sorry for the long wait. We made this film with a hope that it can be enjoyed by both of those who have been following it from the manga and the TV anime, and that it can be gentle support for the audience. The songs in this film are all truly wonderful. Please enjoy it.”
