What makes waxing so painful in hair removal is that hair removal is done in the opposite direction of the hair growth. With sugaring, hair is removed in the direction of where hair is supposed to grow, which means it’s not going against anywhere it’s supposed to go!

As I had shaved my legs before I had the opportunity to visit Barenaked, I opted to get my eyebrows done instead. While my eyebrows aren’t thick, the hair growth is definitely messy, making my eyebrows look sort of shapeless. The only grooming I do to my eyebrows is shaving them off with a blade– I absolutely cannot stand plucking them, and though I’ve tried having them threaded once, I’m not sure I can withstand the pain a second time. I thought of putting sugaring to the test with my eyebrows.

In a fashion similar to waxing, they spread the sugar paste over the area, and peel it off afterwards. What I liked with this session was that everything was done in a swift and consistent motion– the whole thing took probably about just 15 minutes, at the most. Oh, and don’t worry about them using the same ball of paste for the hair removal– unlike waxing where “double dipping” is a big no-no, the sugar in sugaring does not breed bacteria. Yay for a harmless and painless procedure!
Oh, and since the skin on your eyebrows is a little thinner than the rest of your body, it’s bound to hurt… but only a little! The sting goes away afterwards. As a person with a low pain threshold, it’s definitely more bearable than most hair removal treatments I’ve tried! The attendant was also nice enough to do a quick run on my arm just so I can test it, and I can say that I didn’t feel a thing!
What’s also great about sugaring is that unlike waxing, you don’t have to wait until hair growth is long or full enough for your next session. They can remove 1/18 inch of hair, or in other words, a hair strand that’s as long as a grain of rice!
