Manchego Cheese Nori – Imported Manchego cheese fried in thick beer- batter and finally rolled on a Nori, with a strawberry & chocolate sauce on the side.

The taste of the Manchego cheese used is offbeat, not too strong yet slightly salty. Averagely-creamy with the slightest piquancy.  The dish is without the characteristic aftertaste of a sheep’s milk, what makes it rather special is its resemblance to churros.  Told the chef that the addition of the strawberry sauce was a good move. I tried mixing the 2 sauce together and my palate just went crazy with this dish.

Chicken CarnitasBite size carnitas with chicken and tomato-mango salsa, garnished with leeks and red capsicum.

Carnitas means ‘little meats’ and is traditionally fried then braised. Though in this dish, I asked and found out that chicken strips were sautéed, results are just as tasty. I’ve always been delighted with carnitas; they’re beautiful to cook, beautiful to serve. They seem to whip up one’s extra-sensory experience. This is a little like fajitas but isn’t grilled and has a more delicate flavour to it.  The aroma of the carnitas truly wafted throughout Axis and I just knew we were in for something good and boy, were we! The dish was cooked just long enough to crisp the exterior of the meat. Makes you feel like asking for your own cup of rice as it’s great on its own. The meat was really tender and perfectly seasoned, however they can try to double up the spices with this dish for those looking for that extra kick.

A very common Mexican appetizer, the king of all bar party foods…so what’s next? Their portion is a huge layer of fried corn tortilla chips layered on a plate with toppings usually falling off during its trek from the bar’s kitchen down to our table. Good bar food to me is almost always synonymous with greasy while exceptional bar food must never overdo the grease factor. Their nachos are gratifying, topped off with the generous amount of that slathered thick cheese. The grease from the cheese is also nowhere to be found, undeniably a dish that pairs great with any of the many selection of beers they have on the bar list.
