LOOK: Filipino-American Actress Wears a Pink Terno Dress to “Barbie” Premiere

Amid all the gorgeous pink dresses that the ladies wore at the “Barbie” movie’s Los Angeles premiere, there was one ensemble that stood out—at least to Filipino fans—and that is Filipino-American actress Ana Cruz Kayne’s lovely pink terno.

Kayne flaunted the gorgeous pastel pink dress by Filipino designer Dennis Lustico which she specifically requested to wear on the pink carpet as a way of honoring her heritage. “Maraming salamat (Thank you very much) to my dream team for sending me down the pink carpet feeling like my own snatched fairy godmother. Special thanks to @dennis_lustico for the dreamiest Balintawak. Mahal Kita (I love you)! Let’s go Barbie!” she wrote in the caption of her post.

She credited her two Filipino stylists, Los Angeles-based Nikko Panti and New York-based PJ Pascual, for putting her entire look together, which also featured a fringe skirt from Hervé Léger, Stuart Weitzman heels, a Carolina Herrera clutch, and jewelry from Angara Jewelry and Roger Vivier.

“Celebrating her Filipino American heritage, Ana Cruz Kayne and I collaborated on an ensemble where the East meets the West,” said Pascual in his own post. “Her custom-made beaded butterfly sleeve top represents the Philippines. On the other hand, the fringe dress represents her American roots. Lastly, Pink is Barbie. We had a great time in this partnership. Congratulations for being a part of the movie. I can’t wait to see it.”

Lustico first unveiled this elegant interpretation of the Balintawak at Ternocon 2023 as part of his mentor showcase.

“Our blush #Balintawak went through some trials before it got to its final look. I did studies of different embellishments, one of which I included here, and finally decided on what I think was the least girly. The final accent was a coconut series with cut ostrich feathers, crystals and rhinestones. I balanced the whole pink slew of lace and tulle with a bubble drape of ash silk duchess satin that extends to the back,” he said of the piece.
