After six years, Britney Spears is back! The 2022 Britney song is also her first collaboration with Elton John!
“Hold Me Closer” is a club banger, with the pop icons mixing the old with the new. It hints at some of John’s popular hits, “Tiny Dancer”, “The One”, and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, while Spears adds her flavor to the disco/dance pop hit.

Although John started his music career in the 70s, he has managed to stay relevant through the years with collaborations with modern pop stars Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, and more. On the other hand, this has been Spear’s first new music since her 2016 album “Glory” and the ending of her contentious conservatorship. The “Oops!… I did it again” singer expressed her excitement upon its release on Twitter.

“Okie dokie, my first song in six years! It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time – Elton John! I’m kind of overwhelmed…it’s a big deal to me! I’m meditating more and learning my space is valuable and precious,” Britney wrote. She continued in another tweet, “I’m learning [that] every day is a clean slate to try and be a better person and do what makes me happy. Yes, I choose happiness today. I tell myself every day to let go of the hurt bitterness and try to forgive myself and others for what may have been hurtful.”
“I want to be fearless like when I was younger and not be so scared and fearful. I pray there actually is truth to the Holy Spirit and I hope that spirit is with my children as well!” The princess of pop emphasized, “Yes, I choose happiness and joy today.”

Two days after Hold Me Closer’s release, it has garnered 3.6 million plays on Spotify and 3.1 million streams on YouTube. To this, Elton John was thrilled. “I’m thrilled with the response to ‘Hold Me Closer’. I wanted to do a fun, happy summer track so was ecstatic when Britney Spears agreed to be a part of it! She truly is an icon, one of the all-time great pop stars and I love her dearly. I hope you all love it,” John wrote on Twitter.
