The long-running Pinoy sitcom, “Pepito Manaloto,” is officially airing its season finale this weekend.
According to lead star Michael V. in an interview with GMA News Online, he arrived at this decision in order to give more to their Filipino audience amid the new normal.
The show, which has been on air since March 28, 2010, follows the story of Pepito Manaloto, a simple man who had just won the lottery, and the life he lives afterward together with his wife Elsa, their son and daughter Chito and Clarissa, his best friend Patrick, their employees Maria, Robert, and Baby, as well as his neighbors Tommy, Deedee, Mimi, and Berta.
“There’s a hunger to give the audience what they want and what they need even though some things are compromised because of the situation,” he said, in a report by GMA News. “We can’t accept that we’ve been replaying episodes so we have to do something about it.”
The season finale will air on Saturday, May 29. But this doesn’t mean that the show will be going away!
A prequel of “Pepito Manaloto” will be replacing the long-running series titled “Unang Kuwento” which will focus now on the origin story of Pepito’s relationship with Elsa, played by Manilyn Reyes, set in the 1980s. It is scheduled to premiere on July 17.
In its 11-year run, “Pepito Manaloto” has been a hit among audiences and received numerous awards and recognitions as a comedy program from different award-giving bodies, including the PMPC Star Awards for Television, the Catholic Mass Media Awards, and the FMTM Awards. It was created by Michael V. and directed by Bert De Leon.
