The UP Gears and Pinions (UP GPs), a premier organization for Mechanical Engineering students at the University of the Philippines Diliman, is set to celebrate its 70th Founding Anniversary, marking seven decades of fostering camaraderie, innovation, and community-oriented projects. In line with this milestone, the organization is launching two major events: its annual outreach initiative, GivesBack, and the much-anticipated Anniversary Night.
Continuing its long-standing tradition of giving back, UP GPs will once again reach out to the Engineering community through its flagship outreach project, GivesBack ’25: GPs Gives Kit. This year’s initiative focuses on supporting Engineering students by providing essential drawing materials, an often costly but indispensable requirement in foundational courses. Each kit will include a ruler set, compass, pencils, sharpener, and eraser.
Through this program, UP GPs hopes to ease the financial load on students and encourage resource sharing within the college. The organization wants to support the next generation of engineers as they design a better future, emphasizing the role of accessible academic tools in helping students excel.
The GivesBack initiative has become a defining tradition of the organization’s anniversary celebrations. Previous projects—GPs Gives Calc, GPs Gives Joy, and last year’s GPs Gives Mats—have left a lasting impact on both local communities and engineering students. These efforts reflect the organization’s commitment not only to camaraderie and leadership development but also to meaningful service. As UP GPs enters its 70th year, it continues to call on community members, alumni, and donors to take part in this year’s outreach effort.
Complementing the outreach project is the culminating Anniversary Night, which will take place on March 21, 2026. The event will gather alumni and resident members in a celebration of the organization’s legacy and collective achievements. In tribute to its seven-decade journey, the celebration will feature a lively disco-themed party—Groovin’ at 70—highlighting both nostalgia and the vibrant spirit of today’s generation.
