Admittedly, I haven’t watched a new Korean drama series in quite a while. Caught up in work and the chaotic world of adulting, I often found myself rewatching the same shows over and over until I grew tired of them.

Finally, my K-Drama slump has officially ended with the newest spy thriller series, “Tempest,” which features some of the most critically acclaimed and renowned Korean stars we know. This digital series stars Gianna Jun and Gang Dong-won in two of their most daring and thrilling acting performances yet.
If you’re a fan of political thrillers and strong female leads, this show is definitely for you! The pilot episode immediately introduces Mun-ju (played by Gianna Jun), a skilled diplomat and former ambassador to the United Nations. She is married to Jang Jun-ik (played by Park Hae-joon), an ambitious politician aspiring for the presidency.
On the surface, Mun-ju appears as an ambitious and highly independent woman, but at her core, she is empowered and brave enough to stand her ground when faced with unruly situations. Her path eventually crosses with the enigmatic Baek San-ho (played by Gang Dong-won), whose mysterious past and true motives will keep viewers hooked with every episode.
The series also boasts a stellar ensemble of Korean actors, including John Co, Lee Mi-sook, You Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, Joo Jong-hyuk, and Won Ji-an, among others. We can’t wait to see how their characters will evolve and intertwine as the story unfolds.
While political thrillers may not be every K-Drama fan’s cup of tea (and might feel like an acquired taste for those new to the genre), “Tempest” boldly captures the chaotic, cutthroat world of politics during a time of national unrest, revealing how those in power will always stop at nothing to protect their interests. Packed with action, suspense, and maybe even a hint of romance, this series promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats with every secret revealed and every mystery unraveled.
“Tempest” is exclusively available on Disney+, with two new episodes released every Wednesday.
