It seems like the rest of the world just wants a daily dose of “KalokaLike,” with numerous celebrity look-alike competitions going viral on social media over the past few weeks. (In case you’re unfamiliar, “KalokaLike” is a popular segment on the Philippine day-time show It’s Showtime that features contestants with a celebrity look-alike.)
In late October, YouTube personality Anthony Po staged a fun event around New York City, posting fliers in search of Timothee Chalamet look-alikes. The grand prize is a whopping $50 cash reward.
The event drew hundreds of Timothée Chalamet look-alikes to Washington Square Park—men with curly brown hair and chiseled cheekbones, dressed as the actor’s most iconic characters—as well as curious onlookers eager to spot the best doppelgänger.
However, in a hilarious turn of events, the actor himself did the funniest thing ever and made a surprise appearance at his own look-alike contest. Timothée briefly stopped by, delighting the crowd as he posed for photos with fellow “Timothées.”

The overwhelming turnout and Timothée’s unexpected appearance made the event a massive success. Ultimately, a 21-year-old finalist named Miles Mitchell took home the $50 prize.
In effect, the event may have sparked a trend, birthing similar look-alike contests popping up all around the United States and Europe.
Here are more celebrity look-alike contests that went viral on social media in the past few weeks:

Following a string of look-alike events, the trend shows no signs of slowing down as a competition featuring another One Direction member has come in full force!
More than a hundred fans and onlookers gathered in New York to attend the much-awaited Zayn Malik look-alike competition and see which among the participants— sporting the Vibez singer’s signature hairstyle, outfit, and brooding gaze — resembled the former One Direction singer the most.
Finally, the girls who resemble Zendaya should prepare themselves as another look-alike contest will be held for the actress this month at Oakland’s Wilma Chan Park.
Whether the look-alike bandwagon is just another trend that won’t last forever, these wholesome interactions among strangers and hopeful celebrity doubles are a great reminder of how pop culture brings people together during uncertain times.
