F45 Training: This Group Fitness Studio in Makati and BF Homes Makes Workouts Something You Look Forward To

I say this as a newly reformed non-gym-lover: F45 Training is lots of fun.

As my form of fitness, I’ve always preferred yoga, complemented by the occasional running. I’ve tried many gyms and different workouts (muay thai even), but for the life of me, I could not get into them fully. I just could not find any joy in the “torture.” At least that’s what they would feel like to me.

But then came F45 Training. I first heard about it from my friend who encouraged me to try it out with her. And what do you know—it was love at first session.

What is F45 Training?

The name of the studio actually says a lot about how it works. The F stands for functional training, which is a mix of circuit and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workouts. The 45 refers to the duration of the sessions. All sessions at F45 are 45 minutes long, starting and ending with a warm-up and cool-down.

How do the classes work?

This is the fun part. First of all, F45 classes are group classes, so there’s a sense of community there. (And everyone is awesome, especially the coaches.) You know how they say it’s easier to workout when you have a buddy to do it with you? That most certainly is true. And at F45, it’s with a whole class. I admit, the music during the classes play a role, too. The studio’s nicely curated upbeat playlist is like a friendly pat on the back telling you you can do it. :p

F45 workouts consist of stations. Participants start at different stations, and you rotate until you’ve gone through all them. There are screens at the front displaying demos of what to do per station. The timer is also there, so you know how long to stay at a station while doing your reps before moving on to the next one.

Plus a minor, but nevertheless nice, touch—F45 Training provides wiping towels to participants, and each station has its own disinfectant spray. Participants are encouraged to wipe down the equipment they use before leaving a station. Yes to responsible group trainings!

To book a session, F45 utilizes an app, which is where you can view the daily workout schedules. Booking a session is so quick and convenient—you just click a button and a slot is reserved for you. Love it.

F45 Training’s technology-driven workouts (and booking process) contributes to making the whole experience so efficient and fun.

F45 Workout Programs

There are different workouts for each day of the week at F45 Training, and all of those classes change every month, too. According to F45, there are over 5,000 exercises in its database. That way, classes will hardly repeat, and you’ll never find yourself bored of taking the same class over and over.

There are three major categories for workouts at F45 Training:

Cardio (Mondays and Wednesdays)

Designed for “maximum burn,” F45 described its cardio classes as “specially curated cardio workouts” that use “plyometric movements, timing and tempo to blast both your aerobic and anaerobic systems, resulting in fat burning, muscle building and metabolism boosting sessions.”

Resistance (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays)

Resistance training, according to F45, is “essential for building both muscle mass and bone density.” It further explained: “Our strength training sessions use functional movement patterns to help our members to increase their muscle mass, and in turn, burn more calories every day, even at rest. Each resistance workout is designed to target power and stabilization for a solid base of functional strength, resulting in stronger, leaner, more defined muscles.”

Hybrid (Fridays and Saturdays)

Hybrid workouts at F45 combines cardio, resistance, agility, and core movements. They are designed for “an epic burn” to increase endurance, metabolism, and strength. F45 explained, “In these sessions you’ll leave everything out on the floor to challenge both your body and your mind.”
