The province of La Union recently reopened its borders to local tourists in order to revive its economy. Although, there are still guidelines that leisure travelers need to observe under Executive Order No. 27.
The executive order that was issued by La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III states that only a total of 700 tourists will be welcomed into the province each day. Children younger than 15 years old and adults older than 65 years old must not be included in the said headcount as they are still prohibited from entering.
Upon arrival at the provincial border, tourists must present negative results from reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests which should be taken three days prior to their visit.
They will be accommodated only in establishments with Department of Tourism-issued certificates of authority to operate and must subject to health protocols at all times.
The governor reportedly issued EO 27 in response to an urgent petition to open La Union borders given the impact of restricted travel to tourism-oriented businesses. This replaced EO 7, the previously issued executive order which temporarily suspended tourism activities for non-residents.
Currently, the only town that is reportedly under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is Bauang while the rest of the province has now been placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
