Did Heart Evangelista audition for Crazy Rich Asians?
In a recent vlog posted by dermatologist Dr. Aivee Teo, she and Heart Evangelista reacted to some of their old photos. One of which was a side-by-side photo of Heart with Gemma Chan, the actress who played Astrid Leong-Teo in Crazy Rich Asians, where she recalled her audition.
YES, Heart Evangelista apparently auditioned for the 2018 Hollywood film! However, it was not for the role of Astrid. The Filipina actress who was named one of the “real crazy rich Asians” by Harper’s Bazaar in the same year the film was released actually auditioned for the role of Araminta Lee.

“That was fun, I actually did audition talaga,” she says. Even the host, Dr. Aivee Teo was shocked by this revelation. “They were already in the last leg of their auditions and I got a call, and I said you know, sige na, might as well do it na,” Heart continues.
The luxury lifestyle influencer adds that she hired an entire crew to shoot a telenovela-like scene for it and woke up to 10 missed calls from a Los Angeles agent after sending her audition tape. It was to tell her that her presentation paused mid-showing but everyone was like, “who’s this girl?” and they were willing to take a break if she could resend the file so they could continue watching.
“Sabi ko, grabe naman! And then, they asked if I was available to shoot.” Heart replied with a huge “OF COURSE!” yet they never came back to her. Ultimately, Sonoya Mizuno (who also had minor roles in big movies such as La La Land and Beauty and the Beast) landed the role leaving viewers with an iconic, heart-pounding, and tear-jerking bridal entrance.

In a 2018 article published by ABS-CBN’s PUSH (Philippine’s Ultimate Showbiz Hub), it appears that Heart already revealed her audition during her launch as a celebrity advocate for the “A Heart for Aspins” campaign with PAWS Philippines animal shelter. According to the article, the actress’s words were: “It was just a what-if for me. That was the time I was trying to get pregnant. I just needed to get it out of my system. Although, Hollywood for me is really too far of a dream, too big na hindi ko siya iniisip but I did it, I auditioned.”
Heart was happy though, for becoming friends with Kevin Kwan, the author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller “Crazy Rich Asians” from which the film was based. In an interview last year, Kwan announced that he is still hoping to work with Heart in one of his movies in the future. “I hope one day the stars are gonna line and we can find the perfect project to really showcase that talent, that would be so lovely,” he answered.

Will Heart Evangelista be on China Rich Girlfriend?
There had been rumors that the Pinoy celebrity and influencer will be on the sequel of Crazy Rich Asians. Recently, author Kevin Kwan shared an article by Vogue last December 2020 with the list of the Crazy Rich Asians 2 cast wherein Heart Evangelista was in fact, included.
Heart is rumored to take on the role of Colette Bing, a fashionable Chinese mega blogger and “celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi.” However, she is not the only one. Along with her on the list for the same role are To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before lead star Lana Condor and Taiwanese-Australian actress and model Hannah Quinlivan.
